Here’s my take on teenage skincare routines and products!
As adolescents begin to experience puberty, their hormones go into overdrive, triggering significant changes in their skin. This is when the sebaceous glands kick back into gear, producing natural oils that are essential for maintaining the skin’s microbiome, acid mantle, and pH balance.
During this phase, teens start to notice changes in their skin texture and may experience occasional breakouts. This is also the time when both boys and girls may also start exploring methods of facial hair removal, although some methods can exacerbate skin issues (hopefully they’ll steer clear of those home dermaplaning tools readily available on online marketplaces!).
For many adolescents, this transitional period can be intimidating. When I was their age, most of my peers reached for harsh apricot scrubs because we didn’t have access to AHAs and other active ingredients in fun packaging.
Adolescents don’t require harsh exfoliants or potent actives. Their youthful skin already possesses ample natural resources and benefits from a vibrant metabolism. Introducing such actives can disrupt their delicate skin barrier, potentially leading to more irritation and sensitivity.
Furthermore, scars from aggressive blackhead extractions and pimple popping can linger far longer than the blemishes themselves. I’m sure many people have a few reminders on their T-zones of impulsive teenage moments spent squeezing aggressively.
However, there is a silver lining – teens and tweens are keen to take care of their skin. This presents an excellent opportunity to establish a healthy skincare routine. They simply need gentle, pH-balanced products: a cleanser to effectively remove environmental impurities without stripping away natural oils.
One particularly beneficial product is Clinisept – a toner-like spray that boasts antimicrobial properties. This toxin-free hypochlorous formulation helps maintain the skin’s pH balance and prevents congestion and infections. Even if teenagers use nothing else, Clinisept should be a staple in their skincare arsenal.
Additionally, a lightweight moisturizer can provide hydration without clogging pores, and, last but not least, all adolescents should incorporate sunscreen into their daily routine to shield their skin from harmful UV rays. Establishing these habits early on will pay dividends in the long run, and their future selves will thank them for it.
My teens and tweens skin packs are perfect curations of products from some of the best brands that I have used and worked closely with. These products are clean, toxin and paraben free and PH balanced. These products are aimed at maintaining a healthy skin barrier while nourishing and protecting the skin.
